BiO
MiLE 21 A Cappella is a co-ed vocal performance group from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Being an a cappella group, there are no instruments involved in making music. It is entirely student run, specializing in original sound and innovative in-house arrangements. The group holds auditions at the beginning of each semester always looking for the best and most enthusiastic singers on campus. MiLE 21 seeks to break the 'barbershop' stereotype by connecting with the taste of college students and today's most critical ears. In autumn of 2003, Graham Fuller and Chris Carey gathered their musical experience and a few inspired friends to start what has become a cult-favorite on the CU campus. MiLE 21 now gigs all over Colorado, competes nation-wide, and is still looking for ways to become even better.

MiSSiON
A balanced human mind incorporates the realms of the absolute and the artistic. The academic requirements of college often stifle the artistic and require the absolute. MiLE 21 seeks to foster the creative aspects of its members and anyone in contact with the group. Through music, students have the opportunity of expression--the idea is to help everybody realize their potentials, and in turn, make the world a better place.

REViEWS
Regional A Cappella Review Board (RARB)
Tom Czerwinski--"They rely mostly on the strength of their voices, presenting what might be considered a remarkably organic-sounding album for the 21st century of a cappella...." "....far above the average quality of debut material...."

Dave Trendler--"The group's soloists have good voices and sing with style." "Mile 21's understanding of the basics is something that used to take groups many more years."

Valerie Kolko--"Unlike a lot of previous first releases I've had the unfortunate opportunity to listen to, Sing is quite a gem. " ".... what a great entrée into the national collegiate scene!" "Taking a bold risk by relying on vocal execution rather than studio production, they successfully escape the perils of poor blend and boredom...."

REQUiREMENTS
If you are hosting an event where MiLE 21 is performing, there are a few things you should know. The group requires a room to warm up 1 hour before the start of the event. They will sing in there, so make sure it's not somewhere that will disturb arriving guests! During this time MiLE 21's event manager will talk to the event's main contact person to find out where the group will perform. If a sound system is required, MiLE 21's sound engineer will arrive at least 2 hours before the start of the event. Power outlets are required as well as an area in the center of the space in front of the stage for the sound engineer. MiLE 21 will also provide an invoice to the event's host to be signed (if payment is required) and copied, returned to MiLE 21's event manager the day of the event.
There can be anywhere from 12 to 16 members of MiLE 21 (depending on the semester), so make sure the performance area is large enough to accommodate the whole group!
